Inflammatory bowel disease and sleep
We know that some people with inflammatory bowel disease have difficulty sleeping. We also know that people with inflammatory bowel disease often experience significant fatigue and may have difficulties with their mental health. We have developed this survey to look at the relationship between sleep, fatigue and mental health.
This research is a collaboration lead by Dr Alex Barnes (Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and Flinders University) along with Dr RĂ©me Mountfield (Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and Flinders University), Dr Kate Lynch (Central Adelaide Local Health Network), A/Professor Peter Bampton (SA Group of Specialists) and A/Prof Robert Bryant (Queen Elizabeth Hospital). This survey is entirely voluntary and your completion of the survey will be taken as consent.
If you decide to proceed with the survey it will take about 10 to 20 minutes to complete. The survey will ask you questions about your age, inflammatory bowel disease history, sleep, fatigue levels and your mental health.
Please be aware that there are no direct benefits from completing this survey and some questions may cause you some discomfort. If you feel completing this survey may cause you distress, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Your participation is voluntary and all your answers will be collated in a central location within SALHN, Adelaide Australia. If you withdraw from the survey, we will destroy any information that has already been collected. If you participate anonymously once you have submitted the questionnaire we will not be able to withdraw your responses as the questionnaire is anonymous. Completion of this survey will be considered as implied consent.
This survey will be carried out according to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) incorporating all updates. This statement has been developed to protect the interests of people who agree to participate in human research studies.
The survey has been approved by the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network Human Research Ethics Committee (SALHN Reference Number: 203.20). If you have any queries regards to the survey you may direct your emails to email alex.barnes@sa.gov.au or if you wish to speak to someone not directly involved in the study about your rights as a volunteer, or about the conduct of the survey, you may also contact the SALHN HREC Director of Research Operations, on +61 8 82046453.
