Interoception and breathlessness: paying attention to internal body signals and respiratory sensation.
Thank you for your interest to participate in a research project being conducted by the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, Flinders University, and the Flinders Medical Centre. You have been invited to participate because you meet one of the inclusion criteria of our study below.
You are aged 18 years or older AND
· have a diagnosis of moderate-severe Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease (COPD) with no coexisting brain/nervous system disorder or malignancy (i.e. cancer)
-OR-
· or you are non-disabled and healthy with no current major lung or brain/nervous system disorder and no significant history of smoking or smoking in the last 2 years.
This research project is testing if respiratory sensation can be altered by paying attention to body signals, termed 'interoception'.
